The Tesla Model S is a sedan in development by Tesla Motors. It is an electric car that was codenamed WhiteStar during research and preliminary development. It was announced in a press release on June 30, 2008. The prototype vehicle was displayed at a press conference on March 26, 2009.
It is expected to enter production by early to mid 2011[3] with a price of $57,400 ($49,900 after $7,500 federal tax credit) for the base model and acceleration of 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. The Model S will have a range of 150 miles (240 km) or 300 miles (480 km) when fully charged, depending on the model, with a 45 minute QuickCharge that charges from 120V, 240V or 480V. In addition, a 5 minute battery swap will be possible.
The factory was planned to be located on 90 acres (36.4 hectares) in northern San Jose, California, but on March 26, 2009 the CEO announced that the production is being moved to an undisclosed location in southern California.
